Activated carbon

The chemical or thermal activation created by solar energy allows the SMO® process to convert biomass into high added value products, including activated carbon, charcoal from straw or biochar. Nowadays, activated carbon plays a vital role in the energy industry for depolluting flue gases.

Other applications include compounds purification and chromatography in the chemical industry, water and air pollution control in environmental technologies, or in production and energy storage.

Syngas for electricity

A gasification step converts all the coal into syngas by recycling a significant mass of CO2, or possibly methane, up to 50% of gasified carbon mass. The resulting syngas can be transformed in electricity using a turbine process. This way a SMO® operating site recycling 54 tons of waste per day can generate 96MW / h of electricity, assuming a peak power of 4MW.

A transportable unit

To facilitate the installation of production sites SMO® technology modules are held in containers and can be put into production directly. A one-hectare (10,000 m2) production site, exploited for example, at two-thirds of its capacity, can process approximately 54 tonnes of waste per day.
